Post-Consent Decree NOPD/Public Partnership Suggestions.

Image
It's clear the federal consent decree doesnt serve the interests of the New Orleans Police Department nor the law abiding public. While not one of the elite White liberals gentrifying public safety, I nonetheless have decades of experience forging police/community partnerships. These partnerships often arise after automatic dismissal since I'm not the preferred concerned citizen/overseer in too many majority Black cities. Here are two suggestions for post-consent decree NOPD/public partnerships: Suggestion One: Stop Listening to Anti-Police Protestors! NOPD should place far more weight on requests for proactive service and visibility than demands to disengage from activists who don't support stakeholders comprising neighborhood associations, mentoring organizations, safety minded clergy and independent safety advocates. Please note, it's never these constituencies stealing statues, vandalizing businesses or demanding defunding during dangerous times. Pl

New Orleans Federal Consent Decree is Elitist and Racist- and those are its Good Points

Image
Open Letter to "Gotham" (My Nickname for New Orleans): New Orleans and its police department have suffered under the yoke of a federal consent decree not designed, as advertised, to correct real or imagined brutality or corruption.  No, that would make too much sense. Nonsensically, this particular consent decree treats our police officers like sharecroppers incapable of ethical conduct. New Orleans current mayor, police superintendent and city attorney are mischaracterized as de facto slaves answerable to a visiting master from Washington, DC., and a local plantation mistress on a federal bench. I'm not a liberal so please explain to me how this is progress? Our independent police monitor is excluded from any role in this one sided process because, like our mayor, superintendent and city attorney, she's considered a slave too. Vocal safety advocates like our number one crimefighter and mentor, Bro Al Mims, are relegated to field negro status, out of

Tim Scott: Lone Conservative Watchman on the Wall of Police Brutality

Image
US Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) has been a lone mainstream conservative watchman on the wall of addressing   police brutality, an area of government overreach usually associated with liberals or libertarian-Republicans like US Senator Rand Paul (R-KY). Beginning with his stonewalled " Walter Scott Notification Act, " the South Carolinian recently asked US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to let him lead the legislative response to George Floyd's murder, protests and rioting. Senator Scott shares his racial profiling experiences, from seven police stops while driving as a Congressman, being followed by store clerks, and numerous older incidents. These disclosures broke a taboo among our generation of Black conservatives, admitting racism continues to have a negative impact. He's ripped away a gag order that kept many Generation Xers quiet on the topic during their late 20th Century rise in Republican politics. I know from first-hand experience how speak

Sudden Allies against Violent Anarchy

Image
We're far beyond mere partisanship this presidential election season. The usual political dueling match between "Rs" and "D's," Republicans and Democrats, has been replaced by a far more bleak contest: a cultural death match between violent anarchists and vilified Americans whose history, property and persons are targeted with increasing ferocity. This is a growing ideological choosing of sides beyond even the old liberal/conservative divide. If one's temperament doesn't justify rioting, mob assault and statue stealing, party is irrelevant, as you become sudden allies with others from varied parties and philosophies with whom you may not usually agree but wnonetheless feel the same way about opposing mob rule. Sudden allies will hopefully rush to each other's side to oppose violent anarchy allegedly working to stop state violence and colonial icons on behalf of Black America, whose request for this orgy of destruction I've yet to f

Washing Feet for Racial Reconciliation

Image
As a conservative Black man I've nonetheless had to oppose racism from bigots from both major ideologies, including now involving refusal to honor my contract by elite liberals at my old job. Unlike some on the Right who say anti Black bias doesn't exist or ended decades ago, I know otherwise.  As such I have quite a perspective from which to view endless efforts at reform or ruin, in the wake of George Floyd's death. One practice emerged which has raised eye brows-and blood pressure-in acute cases. It is White Americans washing the feet of Black people as symbolic racial reconciliation. Similar to kneeling in opposition to police brutality, this act is considered a slap in the face by White Americans, among others, who feel they don't have racism from which to repent. I'm leery of all elite liberal schemes to address racial grievances. They use Black people as bludgeons to beat the conservative White middle and upper class into cultural submission.

"Burn Baby Burn!" 2.0?

Image
The phrase, "Burn, baby, burn" was made famous as a war cry by participants in the 1965 Watts Riots which erupted after a combative traffic stop between a Black parolee and the Los Angeles Police Department. When word got around of the injury of a pregnant woman in his car, unrest spread like, no pun intended, wildfire. Fast forward to 2020 and Black Lives Matter Greater New York president Hawk Newsome (cool name, uncool commentary) seems intent on reigniting the spirit of this comment and widespread conflagration. During a recent interview with Fox News host Martha McCallum, Newsome said: “If this country doesn’t give us what we want, then we will burn down this system and replace it.. I could be speaking figuratively. I could be speaking literally. It’s a matter of interpretation.”  Given his noteriety, this statement has very real potential to instigate more national violence and vandalism. Whether investigation results remains to be seen. The sta

Cap Black Vs White Power Dems.

Image
The blatant economic violence of elite liberals at my old job caused me to revive an old phrase I coined for such schemers, "White Power Dems." Grassroots leftist friends have elite liberal horror stories too. Elite liberals are loyal only to themselves and even look down on lower income members of their ideology. These bigots don't call themselves Republicans or conservatives. They proudly proclaim themselves to be progressives.  Presidential candidate Joe Biden is the best known White Power Dem and personifies this racist way of objectifying and using Black people. Behind phony symbolism and even phonier public issue discussions is very real racism and a mania to control Black people by posing as secular saviors. The head elite liberal at my old job pretends, like fellow generation  member Joe Biden, to be a genial man of the people, while giving off a condescending air and habitually using affordable housing for government dollars to fund real estate

David Dorn: Symbol of Black People Against Crime.

Image
The murder of 77 year old retired St Louis, MO., police captain David Dorn this month was a special punch in the gut feeling reserved for Black men and women slain fighting the good fight in written off urban areas. Another gut punch came in July, 2019, as a double homicide of a pair of Chicago women, Chantelle Grant and Andrea Stoudemire, part of a mothers street patrol which occupied trouble spots to quell violence and offer hostage residents safe passage. They were killed where they stood watch as a warning to other community crusaders. I shouldn't have to say it but it must be said: the inner city has concerned citizens too. Elite liberal television producers and newspaper editors don't give community crusaders as much coverage as they do negativity making crusaders necessary in the first place. Our community crusaders constitute the best kept secret in Black America. My grassroots security consulting started beside frightened inner city residents whose cr

It's My Flag TOO!

Image
I was raised in the late 1960s-1970s and watched Old Glory, one of many names for the American flag, burned on television in direct contradiction to what home, school and church taught me.  The flag is cloth but it's also a concept anyone can harbor regardless of appearance or attainment in life. Despite what critics shout, it's not only a flag for one race or the wealthy, it's my flag too! Yes me, the big Black guy! We can't let feelings of alienation separate our nation. Clearly, that is what is happening around us. I'm not a sunshine patriot saying our country is perfect. Not once would I suggest smiling away whatever injustices are seen or experienced. Mine is a sober, quiet patriotism forged by not allowing racism encountered to discount greatness recognized in America. I've felt alienation but also feel stronger dedication. Those who hate the flag feel alienated in the country of their birth. Many don't burn flags, commit domestic te

Who has Enough Confidence to do Self Policing?

Defunding poIice is a policy recommendation uttered mostly by libertarians and leftist anarchists. American policing is undergoing its greatest demand for change since the riotous aftermath of Michael Brown's shooting death by a former Ferguson, Missouri police officer. If defunders get their way, along with cash bail  abolitionists  and COVID19  release  advocates, how will we handle surplus career criminals who won't get arrested but will get into more trouble with reduced  numbers of police officers to capture them? It boils down to who has enough confidence to do  selfpolicing  ? I ask this as someone doing outreach who started quietly hitting the streets years ago in my crack cocaine ravaged hometown neighborhood. One thing I know for sure is, regardless of ideology, most Americans or Westerners period aren't anxious to play Batman and BatWoman, for free no less! I've read great libertarian articles on community employed  security  as first re

What is a #BlackNationalistConservative?

Image
Here's my definition of what a Black Nationalist Conservative is: My safety and homeless outreach puts the "office" or "service center" on sidewalks and streets. It is a repudiation of top down solutions to problems and other elitest approaches. It's an expression of non racist Black nationalism where I am a service provider to anyone in need, instead of a stereotypical service recipient. It's key that Black men independently provide infrastructure to address issues surrounding us and to dispel notions that we're passive recievers of other's good will. It's also an expression of non mainstream conservatism that privately contributes to America without automatic alignment with majority population conservative camps. That said, I have more in common with these camps than differences. I'm a Black nationalist conservative, an old school brother with an open mind, doing his civic duty to community and country and alliance

Why Not Make American Zones instead of Autonomous Zones?

Image
Seattle's Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone ( CHAZ ) is making headlines-and headaches-for its occupation of city blocks. Police aren't allowed to enter and predictably, disturbing reports are already radiating from it. Concerned citizens see CHAZ as the latest in a series of deeply disturbing events following the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, MN. They wonder what, if anything, can they do to restore community amid orchastrated chaos? My suggestion is civic minded folks consider making our own "American zones," not to occupy property and incite hostility, but to  create safety and homeless outreach. No overnight camping required, just overriding desire to stop worrying and start working on concrete solutions. Our zones can be as small as directly outside homes, jobs or places we frequent. Zones can be as broad as cities, regions and the  nation itself. The only limits are imagination, time and your comfort zone. It dawned on me while writing thi

Screaming Protesters and Elected Officials Want Police Defunded.

Image
The murder of George Floyd was a horrific crime which literally changed the world. In its wake are steady calls for changing law enforcement by defunding it. Defunding may be more wish than reality given complex webs of municipal, state and federal law, along with civil service and police union regulations to be untangled before their-dangerous in my opinion-goal can be attained. Since screaming protesters and slightly less shrill elected officials want defunding, those I call "safety citizens" must take them at their word. We support fully funded and empowered police departments- period. We also support punishing rogue officers too. Defunding proposals couldn't come at a worse time. Culturally, American law enforcement is violently unpopular since the 2014 death of Mike Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. This tipping point birthed depolicing, where over scrutinized officers cease being proactive for fear of termination or even prosecution by state and federal

Not a Candice Owens Conservative

Anyone who knows me or has passing familiarity with my grassroots security consulting knows I don't coddle career criminals. I don't peddle low standards for Black men, Black people nor humans period. I'm an old school Brother but I'm not a conservative in the mold of Candice Owens. There are distinct wings of Black conservatives just like there are in every other ideology. This latest video of hers is yet another reason why she's in a separate wing from many of us. Cap Black

Protest but Protect

Image
Just Tweeted: Vandalize or burn down businesses where working class Black folks work or shop, will vandals and arsonists be there to repair? NO! Black folks, Protest injustice but protect infrastructure. After pandemic shutdown, we have even fewer stores and jobs to lose. Protest but protect. Cap Black

Defend Yourselves against Injustice, Just don't Destroy your Community.

Image
I don't practice Kingian non violence ( see his video ), despite being one of its beneficiaries. I believe self defense is self love, self love mentally, self love verbally, self love as advocacy, self love written in policy and yes, self love physically when necessary. That said, if you're broke and your area is equally so or worse, vandalism and arson won't make you or where you live less broke. It won't equalize economic inequality. It will deepen it that much more, possibly for generations. If nearby national chain businesses or local corporate outlets are targeted without considering they are the only goods providers  surviving the pandemic shutdown in your area, they're likely not to reopen or move, dramatically expanding your food desert and services vacuum. Area small businesses have likely gone belly up or are operating with only the owner or manager because they can't afford for staff to return to work. Before smoke clears, graffiti dries or

A Short Poem on Long term Issues

Outbreak. Uprising. Overcoming? Our call. Elites can't and won't save the day. Will we? Cap Black, #GrassrootsSecurityConsultant
