Who Will Cops Call for Help?

It's time to get real about police reform. Despite being an old school safety advocate, officers and police executives deserve my sympathy for enduring perpetual portrayals as a 21st century Waffen SS, whose detectives are a Gestapo upgrade, none of whom violent anti law enforcement protestors trust or respect. Policing as an institution is bending over backward to appease zealots who hate them and it's a sad sight.

That said, I must ask, who will cops call for help after a high profile shooting or other use of force upon a Black man- violent anti law enforcement protesters or the law abiding public? If ever there was a moment for police to call upon supportive stakeholders, it is now!

After calls are made to lawyers, union reps, clergy and family members, not getting word to police supporters is a major error.

In cities under elite liberal "leadership," officers and police executives are politically pressured into catering to police and prison abolitionists and repeat offenders playing such misguided mandarins like violins. Law abiding urban stakeholders mustn't allow anti law enforcement protestors to deepen  descent into public safety segregation. Our victims and safety advocates are second class citizens whose concerns and injuries aren't priorities. I've seen this first-hand here in "Gotham" (my nickname for New Orleans) for years and note it elsewhere too.

Individual officers, police executives, police unions and retirees have a choice to make before it's made for them by violent anti law enforcement protestors- who are cops going to call for help when budgets are about to be gutted or viral use of force video further demonizes them?

Law abiding Black people and police supporters of all colors in urban areas are your backup. If you can't reach out to reliable citizens always reaching out to you, then policing and safety as we know them are finished.

Is that what you signed up for?

Cap Black.
